The Super Sleeper applicaton allows you to quickly change the type
of sleep that your Intel based Mac performs when it goes to
sleep.
By default OS X will not only sleep to RAM but also writes out a
hibernate file just in case power is lost while the system is
sleeping. For many people who are close to power all of the time,
the use of a hibernate file is overkill. If you are willing to
sacrifice the safety net of hibernate, then using RAM based sleep
is much faster when putting your notebook to sleep. On a MacBook
Pro the difference is time is 10-30 seconds versus 2-3.
Super Sleeper not only changes your sleep mode, but also deletes
your hibernate file off of your disk thereby saving you disk
storage space. If you switch back to a hibernate based sleep
option, the hibernate file is automatically recreated. Super
Sleeper also detects if you're using Secure Virtual Memory and
appropriately sets your sleep settings.
This application is based upon the findings of Phil Windley and his
article here.
